View The Final TVC (12 MB)In August / September 2007 I worked as Visual Effects Supervisor on a Sony Bravia commercial for the Indian market. I was involved in every stage of this production from early consultation with the directors to refine the script through to client pre production meeting, previz, on set VFX supervision, telecine supervision and finally two weeks of intensive flame compositing to deliver the final product.
The commercial used a mix of photoreal 3D and compositing to deliver a vision of India which literally "makes colors come alive".
Image shows offline, raw scan and the final look achieved by applying HDR grade process. To allow us to push colors into a hyperreal state the entire job was completed in high precision bit depth, we scanned to DPX files and then color graded the background plates in flame to match HDR photos that were taken on set. The 3D was also matched to HDR chrome balls shot on set and was rendered in high precision color. This allowed us to push the colors and grading inside Flame far beyond what could have been achieved if we had taken the normal path of doing a telecine grade to Digibeta tape.
