more QC secrets in “Private Defaults.plist”?

Posted by roger on September 23rd, 2006

private defaults

FDIV has recently revealed that just typing “defaults write -g QCRegisterPrivatePatches 1″ and “defaults write -g QCShowPrivatePatchSettings 1″ in the terminal you can enable 61 new private patches in QC and some extra settings in the Billboard and “Image with Movie” patches. I went hunting around and found some other settings inside the Quartz Composer applications resources. Read the rest of this entry »

FDIV Composition Loader + more new patches….

Posted by roger on September 23rd, 2006

FDIVFDIV has managed to reproduce the functionality that Apple removed in version 10.4.7 of Mac OS X by creating an “Image with Composition” loader patch. Also, FDIV has coded three other patches, MIDI Global IN Note, MIDI Global OUT Note and File Type. Massive thanks to FDIV for making these freely available from his page Read the rest of this entry »

more hidden QC patches from FDIV

Posted by roger on August 22nd, 2006

FDIV has exposed some additional hidden QC patches in a composition available for download from his blog. The evidence suggests that these might be available offically in Leopard but for those who can’t wait to tinker go for it.

FDIV has also written new patches that look very useful for additional midi control and reading textfiles into Quartz Composer. Wicked, these look very useful….

I am meanwhile about to VJ at the last of my summer festival gigs over at Tetris Safari in Northern Ireland and then travelling on the MTV Exit Tour VJ’ing with Microchunk in Bulgaria, Ukraine, Russia and Belarus… Normal Quartonian service will be resumed some time after that. I look forward to sharing information about Quartz Composer updates in Leopard as it is publically revealed.

Glade 2006 Gig Pictures

Posted by roger on August 7th, 2006

I’ve finally got decent pictures from Glade 2006. Triple Screen HD visual action, the best show I’ve ever done by far, and the most fun to do. I’ve also now given in and opened a myspace account http://www.myspace.com/eskatonia which is where I’ll try and put all gig pictures and upcoming information about future shows.

Apple’s developer relations regarding QC

Posted by roger on August 1st, 2006

On a negative front I’m pretty annoyed about Apple’s decision to disable a feature in Quartz Composer silently and with no consultation. In Mac OS X 10.4.7 it’s not possible for a Quartz Composition to load other compositions through an “image with movie” node anymore. Read the rest of this entry »

Quartonian VJ Apps springing up all over…

Posted by roger on August 1st, 2006

I’m not dead, just been stupidly busy with the summer festival season in the UK and I’m now more heavily involved as a core member of Inside-Us-All visuals which means I’m doing a lot more gigs. Glad to have been spending more time outside in this amazing UK summer instead of sitting behind a computer…. But while I’ve been out playing several people have started to do interesting work with the open source elements of Quartonian Mixer.

TripleHead2Go running on MacBook Pro.

Posted by roger on July 2nd, 2006

superwide

Success! The TripleHead2Go works fine on a MacBook Pro running MacOS X and it’s running with full 3d and core image acceleration across three monitors. My Quartonian VAST program is able to render at a decent framerate across three monitors at 2400×600. EDIT: also works fine on an iMac G5 using screen spanning doctor…..

I haven’t updated for a while as I’ve been in India shooting footage for a charity project about Tibetan exiles. Eventually a live AV set will be made out of this footage which will be performed at Synergy Project and other festivals and events to raise money for Tibet Relief UK. More on this later.

Back to Quartz Composer related stuff….

NAB VJ report

Posted by roger on April 28th, 2006

NAB is over and I’ve finally had some time to sit down and think about what I saw in between my demos at the Noise Industries booth. NAB is full of big boys toys, they have whole helicopters with camera mounts on display on the show floor but scattered here and there were a few items cool enough (and cheap enough!) to be of interest to VJ’s or live video performers.
