Ever wanted to attach multiple displays to a Mac Mini? Now it’s possible.
From Firefall Pro comes a write up of attaching a Matrox DualHead2Go to a Mac Mini to drive two displays at 1280×1024. This is very interesting as officially the DualHead2Go is not supported on Mac OS X. In theory this means it’s possible to use the Mac Mini as a decent VJ box by using a DualHead2Go and a Scan Converter to get a video out seperate from your preview. But to be honest you’d probably be better off with an ibook.
Much more intriguing is the fact that Matrox is now coming out with the TripleHead2Go and the fact that the 256MB Radeon X1600 card in a MacBook Pro almost certainly has enough display grunt to drive three projectors at a total resolution of 3840×1072. Obviously, you couldn’t play video files at this resolution from a MacBook Pro but there’s no reason that Quartz Compositions that are mostly comprised of stills, text and particles couldn’t be rendered at this size and a decent frame rate. Certainly it opens up a lot of possibilities that have previously only been the realm of very high end solutions such as a Catalyst Media Server or DataOn WatchOut.
