bpm tapper
Here is my skeleton Composition that has both a tap function generator and a midi clock input and lets you swap between them on the fly.

It’s designed so you can easily rip it apart and use the macros in your own compositions.

The current controls are:
in tap mode click the mouse four times to set the BPM and hit space to clear the BPM setting.
Hit tab to toggle between tap mode and midi clock input mode.

Note that because of the bugs in midi input you must currently reselect the midi clock source from the observed inputs on the midi clock node when starting the composition. Then hit stop and start on the midi clock source and it will pick up and lock to the currently selected midi clock.

Note this composition uses the “signal” patch which is a very useful Private patch that can be accessed by using the plugin available at Clockskew’s Blog. Compositions made using the Private patches will still work fine on computers without this enabler, you just can’t drag new copies of the private patches from the list of patches at left.

The next article in this series will layout the details needed to link midi clock between multiple computers, an Edirol video mixer, some common mac VJ apps and this Quartz Composition.
