Pete Warden has just released a bridge that makes core image filters appear as freeframe plugins on mac hosts. So now Flowmotion and Isadora can access core image filters…. This is cool, and worthy, but what would really interest me is the reverse….
I want to be able to use Freeframe effects inside Quartz Composer. This would be possible if a bridge was created that made a freeframe plugin appear as a core image unit. Then all free frame effects would show up inside Quartz Composer.
There’s a lot of them out there, not all compiled for mac but quite a few have been. Check out www.petewarden.com for some free freeframe effects that you can run in After Effects or various VJ programs.
www.freeframe.org has all the details of the freeframe SDK (all free) if any keen mac developer wants to take this on.
If you haven’t found it already, one of the un-built developer examples that comes with Leopard QTZ is a freeFrame wrapper patch. I’ve only tested it with the simple solarize filter that came with the dev example, but it seems to work very smoothly.
