&t Quartonian: live performance with Quartz Composer » Blog Archive » Future Quartonian Development Plans

I need to put Quartonian development aside for a couple of months to work on some other creative projects.

I’m going to outline my future plans in the hope some other people might start to work on them while I’m elsewhere…..

Next obvious stages:

clip speed adjustment
bpm tap sync functions
hooks for midi control, midi control per fx, midi control of movement in layouts
hook for live video input

Then the big one:

Cocoa wrapper to handle dual screen output correctly. What is needed to make Quartonian a “proper” vj program is to render the composition without the thumbnails and status screen on the second display and render as is on the main display. To do this you’ll need to prerender part of the composition to a pbuffer using lower level OpenGL calls. I don’t have the necessary cocoa/opengl knowledge but I’d love someone else to look at this for me.

Also, the Cocoa app could handle clip assignment in a more straightforward manor and pass the paths to the clips to the compositions as structures of strings.

Further down the line, I’d like to modularise quartonian and allow seperate quartz compositions for fx chains and layouts to be dragged and dropped onto slots in a cocoa app to make a truly modular mix and match vj mixer….

All help appreciated, I won’t be actively developing Quartonian for 2-3 months but I will give advice or test if anyone else starts to work on it.
