Quartonian 0.3 has a cleaned up interface, fx processing resolution toggle, RSS version check and more improvements. Should be much more usable for people with non-core image accelerated graphics cards.
Grab it here
For slower computers. swap in only 320×240 quicktimes and hit tab to toggle to fx processing at 320×240. The frame rate should be much better than in previous versions even using core image filters in software fallback. Don’t try mixing compositions with an older graphics card, your frame rate will drop to 5 fps as it runs out of texture memory very quickly.
New in 0.3
- toggle fx processing resolutions with TAB key
- change negate to use 180 degree hue shift
- rss check for new version on splash screen
- cleanup of interface and docs
now six layouts that can be switched and mix and matched.
F1-F8 switches on and off layouts, eg combinations of arrangements in space of A,B, key and mix images. F1 is a simple mix between A and B. F2 is three rotating planes. F3 is rotating spheres, F4 maps A,B and mix onto a cube which rotates around the camera. F5 repeats the mix in a spiral pattern. F6 repeats the mix in a zoomed pattern.
layouts are made without using core image filters so even on a lower end machine you can mix quartz composer compositions and fly them around in different layouts.
by using the new “minimal gui” option outside the visible area on a projector and with the “panic button” and per bus fx reset this is now much easier to use live.
if you are testing this with your own quicktimes or compositions keep in mind it works best at the moment with “sparse clips”, one’s with a lot of black or proper alpha channels that can be overlaid in a compositional style (my preferred way of mixing). using it with full screen background type clips can make a horrible white mess….). but the “2 bit” luma crunch effect can get around this, activated with x key on the bus in question.
I’m having some luck experimenting with cocoa / interface builder for making drag and drop clip assignment with thumbnails and proper dual monitor support so all these are on the way….
